I used to plant hundreds of native plants for restoration work. Our California lupines are irregular germinators, unless “scarified” — that is, scratched. I used a plastic box about 5x9x2, cut sandpaper to fit, added the seeds and used my sanding block to rub them around. Great germination rate, and quick, not stretching over weeks like unscratched seeds.
Oof I needed this info last week. However I appreciate your channel immensely, keep it coming! Also question if I planted a plant but forgot to break up the roots can I dig it back up without hurting the plant to much? Baby Gypsy bell peppers.
Thanks so much 👍 mate well they say you learn something new every day,and today I have,,as I never heard of doing this before but your right I do wait weeks for them to sprout, Cheers,,I'll put your Brains to good use 😂😂
You can also get a match box or something similar and put sandpaper in the bottom pop your seeds in and give it a gentle shake. Just to scuff up the outside of hard and thick skinned seeds. It just lets water get through the outer seed shell for faster growth of the seedlings. But don’t do it to much all you want to do is scuff the seeds outer shell up and not go through the shell if you go through it you have just killed the seed.
I soak mine in water but legit
Scarification! I did that this year with my moon flower seeds.
😮, thanks for the tips
What plant is that?

I've done this and they rotted inside. Not going to use this method again.
I’ve never had a problem with this, if use rich enough top soil from the forest, I can get seeds to germinate basically overnight
Nice!
Im going to try sandpaper on some banana seeds i wany to grow!
You don't specify which end to snip on curcubit seeds,as the pointy bit is where the root forms so you dont want to damage that?
Or… you could soak the seeds, like the rest of us, until it sprouts
I want to start growing my own seedlings for use in my Farmstand and this is such a great tip, thx!🥬
Just soak them for 2 days and plant. It’s natural they will come in 3-4 days
This prevents weak seeds from germinating thus ensuring the long term survival of the plant.
I did this, works perfectly
Great idea. I soak my hard shell seeds in water until they spout. Most only take a couple days
❤❤Love ur videos. Always learn something every time i view one of ur videos…thank you
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!! This work for pumpkins? What about sunflowers? They always take SO long to germinate
Can you create a Gardening Tips playlist so we can go there and watch all the shorts because this is really helpful and straightforward .
And the water can go out lol
I forgot to cut my pumpkin seeds this season and yet they still managed to come up within 5 days
Thanks for sharing this useful technique!
Great tip! Cutting seeds before planting can really help with faster germination and healthier plants.
❤❤❤

Pea seed tho 😱 Need a chainsaw
They're ready in three days anyway if the soil is warm and moist…..
Thank you, it's taking forever for my seeds to grow. Just hope I see something soon
Been gardening for 30 years and I never heard this. IL have to try it, thanks for sharing.
Love the video! 🙂
Can this work for citrus seeds?
I learn something new everyday on TikTok!
Pumpkin seeds?
We cut our seeds like this and they didn't come up. We checked them and the inside was mush and the outside was hard.
Instructions unclear. Now I have a giant beanstalk growing out of my backyard 😅

Circumcised 😂
I don't cut my Tips and they come up in three days
